El proceso se llama pir\u00f3lisis y lo que queda es un carb\u00f3n muy poroso y muy estable.<\/p>\n<p>Esa porosidad hace dos cosas: retiene agua y le da refugio a los microorganismos. Es exactamente la funci\u00f3n que cumpl\u00eda el carb\u00f3n molido en la receta de bokashi del cap\u00edtulo anterior \u2014 retener humedad, airear y dar casa.<\/p>\n<p>La diferencia est\u00e1 en el tiempo. A diferencia de la materia org\u00e1nica com\u00fan, el biochar no se descompone r\u00e1pido: se queda en el suelo much\u00edsimo tiempo. Por eso es la quinta velocidad del bloque, la que no trabaja en d\u00edas ni en meses sino en d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>El biochar (o biocarb\u00f3n) es el nombre que recibe el carb\u00f3n vegetal que se produce a partir de pir\u00f3lisis de biomasa de origen vegetal. El biochar mejora las propiedades f\u00edsicas del suelo, ya que tiene un alto contenido org\u00e1nico, es muy resistente a la degradaci\u00f3n y tiene elevada micro y meso-porosidad, lo que le confiere una elevada capacidad de retenci\u00f3n de agua, nutrientes y microorganismos.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-48hlg4-3640ae97c3db1b04efdcc605c7ffe21b av_one_fifth  avia-builder-el-5  el_after_av_three_fifth  el_before_av_one_full  flex_column_div av-hide-on-mobile  '     ><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-432vf0-7355e3855ef1007c980f0e06c1eadc02 av_one_full  avia-builder-el-6  el_after_av_one_fifth  el_before_av_one_fifth  first flex_column_div av-hide-on-mobile  column-top-margin'     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-m4vile1z-5c364636cc00c639ac6c31d2f5551f3d '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><h2>Qu\u00e9 significa para vos<\/h2>\n<p>Lo bueno: el efecto sobre el agua disponible fue muy marcado. En un cultivo eso puede ser la diferencia entre aguantar una seca de tres semanas o no aguantarla, y en buena parte de C\u00f3rdoba no es un detalle menor.<\/p>\n<p>La advertencia, y conviene leerla dos veces:\u00a0<strong>baj\u00f3 el nitr\u00f3geno org\u00e1nico del suelo y subi\u00f3 la relaci\u00f3n C\/N.<\/strong>\u00a0En criollo, el biochar puede dejarte el nitr\u00f3geno menos disponible para el cultivo.<\/p>\n<p>Por eso el biochar no va solo. Si lo us\u00e1s, tiene que ir acompa\u00f1ado de una fuente de nitr\u00f3geno: compost, bokashi o esti\u00e9rcol.<\/p>\n<h2>La cuenta<\/h2>\n<p>Treinta toneladas por hect\u00e1rea en tres a\u00f1os es mucho material, y ese es el punto que hay que mirar antes que cualquier otro: <strong>a escala de huerta o de quinta chica, conseguir ese volumen de biochar de calidad no es sencillo ni barato.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nuestra recomendaci\u00f3n honesta para la mayor\u00eda de los lectores de este manual: <strong>el carb\u00f3n molido dentro del bokashi cumple una funci\u00f3n parecida, en la escala que ustedes manejan y con material que ya est\u00e1n usando.<\/strong> Empezar por ah\u00ed cuesta mucho menos y no tiene contraindicaciones.<\/p>\n<p>El biochar como pr\u00e1ctica propia tiene sentido cuando hay escala, hay volumen de material le\u00f1oso disponible y hay quien haga la pir\u00f3lisis bien.<\/p>\n<h2>Ojo con esto<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>No es carb\u00f3n de parrilla.<\/strong> El carb\u00f3n comercial suele traer aditivos y encendedores. Eso no va al suelo.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No lo apliques solo.<\/strong> Puede inmovilizarte el nitr\u00f3geno. Va acompa\u00f1ado, siempre.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cuidado con las promesas de secuestro de carbono.<\/strong> Hay discusi\u00f3n cient\u00edfica abierta sobre c\u00f3mo se contabiliza el carbono del biochar y sobre su validez como pr\u00e1ctica de mitigaci\u00f3n. 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enciende la base del mont\u00edculo.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ajusta las aberturas inferiores para regular el flujo de ox\u00edgeno.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Controla el proceso para evitar la combusti\u00f3n completa.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Enfriamiento y recolecci\u00f3n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Una vez que la pir\u00f3lisis se complete (puede durar varias horas a d\u00edas dependiendo del volumen), cubre completamente el mont\u00edculo para apagarlo.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recupera el biochar y tamiza si es necesario.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4><b>M\u00e9todo de fosa<\/b><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Preparaci\u00f3n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excava una fosa de 1-2 metros de profundidad y del tama\u00f1o necesario seg\u00fan la biomasa disponible.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Llenado y encendido<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Llena la fosa con biomasa en capas y prende fuego en la parte superior.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A medida que el material superior se pir\u00f3liza, agrega m\u00e1s biomasa por etapas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Control de ox\u00edgeno<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cubre parcialmente las partes superiores con tierra o material no combustible para evitar la entrada excesiva de aire.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Enfriamiento<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Una vez terminado el proceso, cubre la fosa con tierra y espera a que se enfr\u00ede completamente antes de recolectar el biochar.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Usos y dosis del Biochar<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Dosis recomendada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>1-10 toneladas por hect\u00e1rea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (t\/ha).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En suelos muy degradados o arenosos, dosis m\u00e1s altas (5-10 t\/ha) son m\u00e1s efectivas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En suelos f\u00e9rtiles, dosis menores (1-3 t\/ha) pueden ser suficientes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Recomendaciones\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mezclar el biochar con compost, esti\u00e9rcol o fertilizante org\u00e1nico antes de incorporarlo al suelo para potenciar la microbiota y la disponibilidad de nutrientes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incorporar a los primeros 20-30 cm del suelo para optimizar su interacci\u00f3n con las ra\u00edces.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div><div  class='flex_column BIOCHAR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Control del fuego<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mant\u00e9n el proceso bajo vigilancia constante.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aseg\u00farate de que el \u00e1rea est\u00e9 despejada de materiales inflamables y vegetaci\u00f3n seca.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ten agua, arena o extintores a mano para emergencias.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Evita el contacto directo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Durante la pir\u00f3lisis, se generan altas temperaturas (300-700 \u00b0C). Usa herramientas y guantes resistentes al calor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No manipules el biochar caliente; espera a que se enfr\u00ede completamente.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Manejo de gases<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En el proceso de pir\u00f3lisis se liberan gases inflamables (CO, CH\u2084).
